Taisho Ramen review: SM North Edsa Sky Garden

I would like to share my first hand (also tongue :P) experience in tasting their well known Traditional Fresh Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen.

Taisho ramen review

I am a fan of Rai Rai Ken for the affordable quality ramen but recently, no more Rai Rai Ken in SM North. Upon reaching the sky garden, I saw the newly opened ramen place and prices are cheaper than P200 so I gave it a try.

Having a ground pepper, sort of chili sauce, red pepper and a crusher make adding spices and tasting easier. I can only read the first kanji "大” Tai which is related to great, big and large. Taisho 大将 means general but I think in this restaurant, they are referring also to master. Hmm... sounds nice huh. Taisho ramen. General ramen or Master ramen,

Taisho ramen's Hakata Tonkotsu

Although the egg wasn't fully boiled. The chashu and sesame seeds were the saving graces. The chashu even with less fat tastes good and the meat is not too thin nor too thick like in Santouka Ramen and not having much fat like in Kichitora of Tokyo even though I like the chashu in Kichitora .

I tried the crusher but it isn't really a crusher, It's an extractor or a squeezer. The juice of the red pepper came out. My meal was complete. I cannot stop eating. I emptied the whole bowl and felt satisfied.

For a P195 ramen, it's really sulit! I ate at this restaurant two times already but on my third time, their prices change. I asked the staff why is there a price increase. The reason for this is the last price was for promotion. Too bad :( . Anyway, their recent price is P235 for this quality ramen and it is still cheaper compared to other ramen restaurants. It still has no service charge. I would also like to try Rai Rai Ken again. This Saturday, I will go back again to this restaurant, Taisho Ramen.

Rating: 4/5
I really wanted pasta but crowded restaurants everywhere in Trinoma hindered me to go to those well known pasta places. I am tired of searching and guess what, I ended up on Trinoma's Mindanao lobby.

I am choosing between UCC and Parvati. I ate before at UCC and I find the food there is overrated. Their one cup of chamomile tea's price is equivalent to Grande of Starbucks! Looking at the menu, it looks delicious and big but on actual it really isn't. End of rant.

I chose to eat at Parvati.

They have a whole line of homemade desserts. Correct me if I'm wrong, I think Parvati is a consignment desserts shop.

I think the reception's isn't air conditioned well

I browsed the menu but I what I am searching anything pasta.

.
They have half portion and whole size. I ordered the half portion of Pasta Alla Carbonara. and Hot Chocolate. I ordered half portion thinking that I cannot finish the whole size.

While waiting, I took shots of the nice decoration there.

I tried their wi-fi and it's fast. I never got bored while waiting. Finally, the waitress served the food.

Parvati Pasta Alla Carbonara

Looks big huh. I'll show you a farther view.

Carbonara and Chocolate eating

The half portion size is really a half portion for a single person while in other restaurants, a whole portion is for two persons and a half is enough for a person.

Bits of chocolate on the cup rim makes the drink delicious but it is expensive for a P90 value. I think it will be better if it is between P60-P75.

Regarding the pasta, I like that the pasta's not too creamy and I really like it. You can taste the cream and it has many bacon bits and for a P160 value, the price is okay but will be cheaper if you ordered for the whole size.

Upon billing, the waitress thanked me. Also, the shop doesn't have service charge. The price on the menu is "as is".

Rating: 3.5/5
because of the price considering its small space. Free wi-fi, courteous staff and delicious food is what this restaurant can offer.   :)
Tous les jours is a French word which literally means All the days but it really means "Everyday"

Since we are already in SM North Annex for a family celebration. My sister bought a cake from Tous Les Jours.

Tous Les Jours is an  Asian-French bakery. It served bakery goods and beverages in several countries. Here in SM North Edsa, they have branches in The Block and Annex.

Tous Les Jours apple cake

The Apple Inspiration costs 548 pesos. Expensive isn't it? Well, we will see if the price is really worth it or if it's just a fad like cronuts.

Candles also from TLJ
Upon eating the cake, it isn't too sweet unlike others. You can taste the apple and sort of white cheese and cream.

Closer look at Tous les Jours cake

This cake doesn't easily melt. It is enough for a family of six. What I did not find pleasing to eat is the:

Eating Tous Les Jours apple cake leaf

You're right, I don't like the taste of the leaf. It has a somewhat bitter + green tea taste. Aargh!

Still, the cake is 4/5 stars, The price isn't bad for this.

Tous Les Jours review

I ate at Kichitora of Tokyo last December or maybe I would say last year.

Because of the ramen craze. I eagerly tried different japanese restaurants and post reviews at my first official blog: sarisaringisip

Since I frequently post food reviews, I decided to build this new blog.

End of the commercial break.

I am craving again for ramen and this time, I tried to read reviews about Ramen Santouka and those convinced me to try the ramen there. After I finished my work and  before riding the MRT, I decided to eat at Santouka Ramen located at Glorietta 4.

Kichitora of Tokyo is located Greenbelt 5 but since it is already 9 pm when I arrived there, I decided to finally go to Santouka.

There are many people waiting inside. Since I have the determination when it comes to ramen and I am second in their line up, I stayed and waited patiently.

As you can see, those ramens have regular, small and large sizes. Finally, I decided to order Shoyu ramen (Soy sauce ramen). While waiting for table and seat, the waitress handed me the order slip. I like how the staff is sincerely waiting and calling for customers whenever the tables become vacant.

When I had my table, I handed the order slip to the waitress. While waiting, I took pics of the restaurant's interior even the place is crowded.

On my last food review about Kichitora of Tokyo, I ordered the Shoyu ramen so I'll introduce you to the prices first.

Ramen Santouka prices

Kichitora's price is 320 pesos for a large bowl while Santouka's regular and large bowl are 330 and 390 pesos. Both have 10% service charge.

Ramen Santouka ramen review
Their shoyu ramen is composed of bamboo shots, onion springs, seaweed, naruto (spiral condiment) chashu(s)/round pork meat.

Noddles are thick and chashu is also thick

Yum :P

Here's the comparison

Ramen Santouka versus Kichitora shoyu ramen
On the left corner, Santouka Ramen shoyu ramen. On the right, Kichitora of Tokyo shoyu ramen
Kichitora's shoyu ramen has an additional pechay (chinese white cabbage). You will feel the literal taste of soy sauce on the dish that's why I added spices for balance.

Santouka's shoyu ramen has thicker noodles and thicker chashu. It disappoints me that there's no little bit of fat on the chashu but overall, I find this really delicious.

It's judgment time!

For staff and service, Santouka Ramen is better.

For this match, I declare Santouka Ramen as the winner.

But overall, Paitan Ramen Zenbu no Se is still my whole time favorite. I visited Kichitora of Tokyo twice already because of this.

Both are worth trying for!

Soon, I'll try to share my Taisho ramen or any other ramen under P300 experiences.
